The Department of Urban Development is responsible for the creation and implementation of building codes and land-use standards along with overseeing the City’s Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Adjustments and Appeals. Other duties include the issuance of City Privilege Licenses and assisting citizens with floodplain management by providing information concerning properties located in special flood hazard areas in the City and informing of the proper actions needed to be taken for flood insurance.
We work with residents, neighborhood groups, public agencies, and other City Departments to create, design, and review plans for community form-based codes and to implement building and land-use standards once they are adopted.
Our Mission: To provide efficient, effective, and openly responsive municipal services to all citizens while promoting responsible economic development, preserving our heritage, and enhancing our quality of life all while creating a better community.
